Step 1: Find Your Sport
The first step for any prospective student-athlete is to identify the sport or sports they are interested in participating in. Students may participate in athletics throughout the school year; however, they may only participate in one sport per season.

* Uncapped Teams – These teams do not have a specified roster limit set by the CIF/CCS. This means that the head coach is able to set their roster size according to facility access, performance standards, and coach availability.
Step 2: Contact the Coach
Once a student-athlete has selected a sport, they should reach out to the head coach for more information about tryouts, practice times, game schedule, expectations and requirements. Coach contact information can be found at Gunn Coaches Contact
Step 3: Get a Physical
All student-athletes must have a current physical on file to participate in try-outs, practice and games
- Bring the required Physical Form to your medical appointment.
- Keep a copy of all submitted forms for your records.
- Physicals are valid for one year from the date of the exam
(Example: a physical completed on 6/1/2026 is valid through 6/1/2027).
If a physical expires during the season, the student must obtain a new physical before resuming practice or competition.
Recommendation:
We strongly recommend that students complete their physical between June and August. This ensures the physical remains valid for the entire school year and all three athletic seasons.
Step 4: Register to Play
For detailed instructions on completing the online athletic registration process click here How To Register
- Students may register for multiple sports at one time.
- Registration information can be updated at any point during the year.
Step 5: Attend Try-outs & Practice
Once online registration is complete, the Athletic Trainer will electronically clear the student-athlete.
- Families will receive an email confirming clearance.
- Coaches can only allow participation for athletes listed on the official clearance roster.
- Students who are not cleared may not participate in practices or contests.
